The Microbiome
The invisible world on your skin
Our scalp and skin is home to billions of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and mites. This community forms your microbiome.
Good Begins with balance
A balanced microbiome is rich in microbial diversity. It supports healthy hair and skin by defending against harmful pathogens, strengthening the immune system, and enhancing nutrient absorption.
Imbalance Leads to Disruption
An imbalanced microbiome, called dysbiosis, occurs when harmful bacteria and yeast overgrow. These microbes feed on oils found on skin, releasing fatty acids that irritate skin. Imbalances are linked to skin disorders including eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, acne, and psoriasis.
A cause of imbalance
Haircare products containing lipids that feed harmful microbes, harsh ingredients that kill helpful microbes, or allergens that disrupt the skin barrier can trigger or worsen dysbiosis. This includes most oils, waxes, butters, esters, fragrances, and antimicrobials.
