OCHRE (OH-kər) is a naturally occurring clay earth pigment with an extensive history.“OCHRE may have been humanity’s first medicament.”It was used by the Maori as a bug repellant in New Zealand, by Renaissance artists to paint frescoes in Italy, and the Himba people to style their hair during rituals in Namibia. We believe we are keeping that tradition alive by creating versatile products that work for both beauty and health.

Yes. All of our products are clinically proven to be hypoallergenic.

We’ve also worked with a dermatologist and allergist to select our ingredients. We avoid fragrances, most plant extracts, essential oils, alcohols, dyes, sulfates, formaldehyde releasers, methylisothiazolinon, methylchloroisothiazolinone, and parabens.

We avoid pore-clogging and fungus-feeding ingredients that can cause acne. All of our products are also clinically-graded as noncomedogenic by an independent board certified dermatologist.

We use ingredients derived from natural sources that are shown to be safe for sensitive skin. However, not all natural ingredients are safe for sensitive skin (think poison ivy). We selected a few well-documented synthetic ingredients that are safe for sensitive skin and won't feed Malassezia yeast.

Yes, OCHRE products are Leaping Bunny certified, meaning they are never tested on animals and use only vegan ingredients.

All our products are formulated and manufactured in the US with global components.

We intentionally formulate our products to be fragrance-free. Research shows fragrances are common irritants for many skin types.

We do 3rd party in vivo microbiome testing with ~25 participants using qPCR technology to check if our products keep the scalp’s microbiome in balance.

We do a 3rd party dermatologist-graded comedogenicity assessment to check if our products do not clog pores on the scalp.
